On the Mobile World Congress, Rob Conway, head of the GSM Association, announced that until 2012, the majority of mobile phones will support a standardized power supply based on Mini-USB.
Better late than never, I say. One of the reasons why I did not yet buy a new cell phone is the mess with power supplies. I prefer to have more than one power supply - one at home, one at my work place, one it my car. I will think twice about buying a new cell phone when that renders most of my equipment useless.
Actually, I already thought about buying a new cell phone several times - and finally did not because the phones that looked interesting to me did not support Mini-USB. To me, supporting Mini-USB for the power supply looks like it should be only the first step. I'd want all equipment, especially the connection to my PC, to use Mini-USB.
