CherBot, Cher's information bot for Daimonin, will finally become open source. The decision whether to open source CherBot was not easy. After nearly two years of discussions of the pros and cons with the ↗Daimonin and ↗CherBot teams, we finally found a way to release CherBot.
I've just entered the registration process of CherBot as a SourceForge project. SourceForge says it usually takes about 2 business days to perform such a registration, though to my experience they're usually faster with that. The initial CherBot development team will consist of Longir, Marck, Shroud and myself. Additionally I'll put important Daimonin staff members and seasoned Cherbot admins in the project as far as I'm aware of their SourceForge accounts. This will hopefully solve the problem of not having the infrastructure required for reasonable continuation of CherBot development, especially for CherBot V2.
The release of CherBot will take place in two steps. In a first version everything but the security-relevant network code will be published. Publication of the security-relevant network code will await approval of the Daimonin team. This is to prevent harm from being done to MMORPG servers, especially Daimonin.

CherBot is an information bot for Daimonin which probably would also work pretty well with Angelion and to less extent with Crossfire. CherBot keeps track of which players collect which items, who's been online, determines a level ranking, provides a mail system for mailing offline players, manages clans and more.

Daimonin is a 2D hack and slay MMORPG in the tradition of and based on Crossfire. It consists of a server, archetypes (object definitions), maps and scripts, sounds, a 2D client and an editor (now superceded by Gridarta). A future version of Daimonin that features 3D is currently under development.
